Bidvest Wits             (0) 1 (Eva Nga 90+5’)

Kaizer Chiefs            (0) 0

Kaizer Chiefs conceded a goal deep into referee’s added time against Bidvest Wits in a crucial Absa Premiership game on Sunday afternoon at FNB Stadium.  Bienvenu Eva Nga scored in the 95th minute to hand Wits a 1-0 win. The result somewhat hard on Chiefs who dominated large parts of the game and even had claims for a legitimate penalty turned down. Amakhosi also suffered an injury blow in the game with Daniel Akpeyi having to go off after a collision with Mxolisi Machupu just before halftime, he was replaced by Bruce Bvuma.

The game started well and after 4 minutes, Reeve Frosler made a good run down the left and floated the ball towards the back post where Nurković was able to rise up a head the ball across goal trying to pick up out Khama Billiat. it took a full-length dive from Ricardo Goss to push the ball away from danger.

Chiefs had the Wits goalkeeper Goss at work again in the 20th minute when Kgotso Moleko swung the ball in goal wards from the right. The ball seemed to drift beyond the Wits keeper before he managed to get a hand to the ball and pushed it away.

Just past the half hour mark, a cross from the right found Sifiso Hlanti lurking on the right side of the Chiefs 18 yard area, under the attention of Moleko he was closed down and with few options available attempted to chip the ball over Akpeyi, but the Chiefs keeper was up to the task and turned the ball out for a corner as it came towards him.

Chiefs had appeals for a penalty turned down in the 39th after Frosler was upended inside the Wits penalty box by Thulani Hlatshwayo. Frosler had played the ball past the Wits skipper and as he attacked the ball, he was brought down. Referee Victor Hlungwani allowed play to go on and waved away Chiefs appeals for a penalty, with Chiefs justified in feeling aggrieved by the decision.

Chiefs were forced into make a change as the first half came to an end. Goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi attacked a cross from the left by Deon Hotto and managed to punch the ball away, but on the follow up he crashed into Mxolisi Machupu and suffered a head injury. The Chiefs keeper could not continue and had to be taken off and was replaced by Bvuma. It was Bvuma’s third league appearance of the season in the league and his first since November last year.

Seven minutes into referees added time at the end of the first half, Bvuma held his ground to turn a curling free kick from Hotto over his cross bar for a corner. There were over 11 minutes of added time played at the end of the first half as a result of Akpeyi’s injury. The half ended 0-0.

In The 57th minute Kearyn Baccus managed to find himself in some space and raced goal-wards before sliding the ball to his right for Moleko, who with just Goss to beat sent the ball wide of goal. Chiefs did have the ball in the back of the net in the 76th minute but the goal was disallowed as Nurković who turned the ball home, was judged to have been in an offside position in the build up to the goal.

With ten minutes to go, Willard Katsande and Frosler played a good one two which eventually saw Katsande tee up Frosler for a chance at goal. His driving effort which seemed on its way in got a slight deflection from Hlatshwayo as the ball went out for a corner. A few minutes later, Bernard Parker went close to breaking the deadlock, turning a shot from close range wide.

In the 84th minute Goss had to be at his best as he scrambled back to stop a backward header from Lorenzo Gordinho and sent the ball out for corner. Shortly thereafter Mulomowandau Mathoho went wide with a header from close range after making contact with a cross from Anthony Akumu Agay.

In the final minute of the 90, Chiefs spurned their best opportunity of the game. A ball from the right by Moleko was missed by all in the Wits danger zone and the ball rolled to Nurković at the far post, with the goal gaping the Chiefs striker sent the ball wide from a few yards out.

With time running down Chiefs were looking for the winner and were caught on the counterattack. Goss threw the ball out two Wits substitutes combined as Keagan Ritchie sent the ball high over the Chiefs defence where Eva Nga ran on to the ball and placed it high and wide past Bvuma for the game winner.

After a valiant effort Chiefs were undone in the final minutes as they lost to Wits in an away league for just the third time in 23 PSL era away league games against the students.
