The busy week for Kaizer Chiefs continues on this Women’s Day afternoon as they play their second match in three days. They face Mamelodi Sundowns in the DStv Premiership at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.
This is both teams’ second clash of the 2023/24 season, after kicking off this past weekend, when Sundowns faced Sekhukhune on Friday, and Chiefs took on Chippa United on Sunday, in Durban.
Of the two teams, Sundowns are a little more rested, having played on Friday, while Chiefs were in action just three days ago..
Sundowns’ coaches, led by Rhulani Mokoena, have done a thorough analysis of the Chiefs team, after making a trip to Durban to take notes of their opponents’ approach in the new season under the stewardship of coach Molefi Ntseki.
When it comes to today’s clash, Chiefs are happy to welcome winger Pule Mmodi back after his compassionate leave last week. The winger will walk straight into the starting XI after doing well in pre-season.
With the limited time they’ve had to prepare during this demanding week, coach Ntseki and his technical team have decided to make three changes to the team that started the first game of the season on Sunday.
The changes are in midfield and attack, with Siyethemba Sithebe taking Nkosingiphile Ngcobo’s spot, while Mduduzi Shabalala will be replaced by Pule Mmodi, and Ashley Du Press comes in for Christian Saile.
Coach Ntseki will once again go with a 4-2-3-1 formation for this Women’s Day clash.
Brandon Petersen keeps his position in the goalkeeping department.
The defence is unchanged left-back S’fiso Hlanti, Thathayaone Ditlhokwe and Given Msimango as central defenders and Reeve Frosler as the afternoon’s right-back.
After impressing on Sunday, Yusuf Maart and Edson Castillo will continue as holding midfielders. They will work with Sithebe, while Mmodi runs on the left and Du Preez on the right wing.
Ranga Chivaviro will be Amakhosi’s target man.
Petersen is the captain.
The referee is Abongile Tom. He is assisted by Zakhele Siwela and Khamusi Razwimisani. The fourth official Thando Ndzandzeka.
Amakhosi play their second game of the 2023/24 season against Mamelodi Sundowns at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium at 15:00. The match will be live on SuperSport’s PSL Channel 202 on DStv, SABC 1 and various SABC radio stations - with regular updates of the match on Twitter @KaizerChiefs.
