The new home and away jerseys were launched last week and are already on sale online via http:/kcdigistore.com since Monday, 28 September.
The home jersey draws inspiration from Kaizer Chiefs’ founder and Chairman, Kaizer Motaung, incorporating a lion’s mane in the design to reflect the Bataung clan name.
Baccus’ teammate Leonardo Castro is also positively surprised by the new home jersey.
“It’s very different from previous Chiefs jerseys,” the Colombian striker says. “It also says a lot about what the club means. The Gold & Black colours have been kept, but the design is awesome, it’s so modern. I love it!”
Amakhosi’s young talent, Njabulo Blom feels that the new home jersey “describes the Kaizer Chiefs player – it has character and it’s brave, like a lion. It’s very different and unique, it gives me a fresh feeling for the new season.”
All three agree that the new home jersey is very light and comfortable to wear. “It feels much lighter than last year’s jersey,” Baccus explains.
The new away jersey is striking electric blue with a gold trim around the neckline and sleeves to reflect the club’s prominence in African football. The collar of the jersey is also inspired by the lion’s mane that is found on the home jersey.
“It was a bit of a surprise when I saw the new away jersey for the first time,” Baccus admits, “as blue is quite an unusual colour for a Chiefs jersey. But it’s so modern, it’s really something special.”
“It’s simply amazing,” Blom adds, “I never thought we would be that creative with a new jersey, using a very different colour, blue. It shows the future and where the team is heading to – the creativity of the jersey symbolises the creativity of the team.”
According to Castro the new away jersey is about “doing new things and do them differently. The design is real artistry. It’s so nice.”
The striker also has a message to the Chiefs supporters: “Thank you for being loyal to us, even if you have to support us from your homes and can’t as yet come to the stadium. However, we still need you, knowing that you are behind us.”
Baccus mentions how in Australia, where he grew up, about 10 000 supporters are allowed back in the stadium for soccer matches, even though people have to keep distance from each other, after the worst of the Covid-19 epidemic seems to be over.
“Hopefully, the situation will improve and we will see you back in the stadium soon,” the midfielder tells the supporters. “
Blom’s message is, “let’s not dwell too long on the past. We all want to fix our mistakes and want to bring silverware to our supporters and the club.”
Chiefs and Nike have once again added a slim-fit ladies’ cut for our female supporters. The ladies design, however, will only be available in the home jersey. There will also be jerseys for our young supporters.
Shoppers can customize their jerseys, which means that they will be able to print names and numbers on the jersey.
Please go to our KC DigiStore and order the new jerseys online via http://kcdigistore.com, as the KC Store at the Village is still closed for the time being.
