South African champions Orlando Pirates and arch rivals Kaizer Chiefs say they are both delighted to have been invited by the South Africa 2010 Bid Company to compete in the International Bid Club Challenge matches against English giant Tottenham Hotspurs later this month.

Both clubs will take on Spurs in separate matches in Durban and Cape Town in the challenge, competing for a trophy and medals, South Africa 2010 Bid Company chief executive officer Danny Jordaan said on Wednesday.

Pirates brand manager Zodwa Khoza said the club were proud to accept the invitation to test their mettle against the London club, who enjoy a worldwide reputation and following.

"We are right behind the 2010 bid campaign and as champions we see it fitting that we go to Durban to take on Spurs in the first game," she told a press briefing in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

"We will be taking a full squad and we are going to try and show the rest of the world that we are ready to host the 2010 World Cup finals.

"Pirates thank the bid company for inviting us. This is going to help our preparations for the coming season and also our participation in next year's African Champions League," Ms. Khoza added.

Kaizer Chiefs representative Jason Raine also thanked the bid company for the invitation.

"We take a lot of pride in being asked to represent the country in something like this," he said of the International Bid Club Challenge.

"We will be participating, even though there were reports we would not be, and we’ll also be sending our strongest team possible. Our players will be coming back from South Korea to play in the game," he added.

The South Africa 2010 Bid Company chief executive officer Danny Jordaan said both matches in Durban on July 26 and Cape Town on July 29 would be played to a result with a trophy and medals at stake.

The winner would be decided on penalties after 90 minutes if there was no result but there would be no extra time played.
