Chiefs will be aiming to overcome the Cameroonian champions and progress in the competition. The journey to African success begins for Amakhosi with their first ever trip to Central Africa and their first meeting with Cameroonian opponents in a CAF competition.
Chiefs will fly out to Cameroon via Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) on Thursday evening and will be in Douala Cameroon on Friday Morning, before making a 77 km journey to the South Western coastal town of Limbe, where the game will take place.
Club chairman Kaizer Motaung re-iterated the historical importance of the clash by saying: “This is an important journey for us. It’s our first time playing in Cameroon. It happens in our 50th anniversary milestone. And it happens when Cameroon is preparing to host the Africa Cup of Nations. So, we are going out there to fly the South African flag with pride. I wish the team a safe journey and victory on Sunday.”
Amakhosi will have a training session in Limbe on Friday afternoon on one of the grounds surrounding the stadium. The team will then train on the main pitch on Saturday afternoon, as they look to get a feel of match like conditions in the picturesque town which sits on the foothills of the famed Mount Cameroon.
This is the sixth time Chiefs will be featuring in the CAF Champions League with their first participation coming back in 1993. Amakhosi will be aiming to overcome their Cameroonians opponents over two legs and move on to the next round. The winner of this round will face Angolan side Primero De Agosto over two legs in the first round and the winner of that clash will move onto the group stages with 15 other teams.
Chiefs will leave Limbe on Monday afternoon for Douala Airport and should be home on Tuesday morning.
The game will kick off at 15:00 local time (16:00 SA time) on Sunday. Details will be made available as soon as there is a confirmation that the game will be broadcast live on television.
The second leg will be played on the weekend of the 4-6 December with the date yet to be confirmed. The game will take place at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
