What Happened?
Kaizer Chiefs beat Chippa United 1-0 to progress to the semi-final of the Telkom Knockout. Bernard Parker scored from the penalty spot in the first half.
Coach Steve Komphela made two changes compared to Tuesday’s league match against Polokwane City, bringing on Siyabonga Ngezana for Lorenzo Gordinho and Wiseman Meyiwa for George Maluleka, who is struggling with a slight thigh muscle strain.
Chippa played some positive soccer, trying to dominate the game. They got some early chances, but Itumeleng Khune was in excellent form, making some brilliant saves.
Chiefs got a penalty in the 31st minute when Joseph ‘Tight’ Molangoane was pushed off the ball by defender James Okwuosa in Chippa’s box. The referee immediately pointed to the spot. Bernard Parker finished nicely, 1-0.
The Glamour Boys looked set to score the second before the break, but it was ruled off due to offside of Willard Katsande, which was probably a mistake from the linesman.
Amakhosi didn’t play that well in the second half, as is often the case in tight cup games. On the other hand, Chippa never posed too much of a threat.
There was some concern in the end when Khune was stretchered off with an injury. Hopefully, it’s not too serious as there are two crucial Bafana Bafana World Cup qualifiers coming up.
In the end, Chiefs won 1-0 and that was enough to reach the semi-finals of the Telkom Knockout.

That was probably the moment the referee decided to reward Kaizer Chiefs a penalty when Joseph Molangoane was brought down. Bernard Parker easily slotted the ball home from the penalty spot.
Most Valuable Player (MVP):
Philani Zulu had a fine game, both defensively and going forward. Itumeleng Khune was also brilliant again, making some crucial saves. However, in the end, Joseph Molangoane was handed the Man of the Match award for an excellent performance, often threatening Chippa’s defence with his pace and skill.

It means that Kaizer Chiefs have reached the semi-final of the Telkom Knockout competition.
