“It’s exactly how we wanted to play, it’s the result we were looking for,” reflected coach Arthur Zwane. “I’m impressed by the team’s overall performance. There’s no question about it, we played beautiful football today. It shows how with a bit of consistency in front of goals, we could have punished many more teams this season.”
Spearheading the win and leading by example was captain Nkosingiphile Ngcobo at his best, dictating terms from the middle of the park. “It is pleasing to watch some of these players maturing and knocking hard on the door of the first team,” said Zwane. “It’s a matter of time before some of these lads will start making appearances in the first team.”
Happy Mashiane and Itumeleng Shopane scored in the first half to send Sisa Dukashe Stadium into a rapture.
“The goals we scored were all well-worked out team goals,” remarked an elated Zwane. “The passing game we applied, got the opponents chasing shadows. Baroka, however, were certainly no pushovers. They brought some of their first team players to give them some balance. They just played us at the wrong time, when a win was non-negotiable.”
Ngcobo netted in the second half a brace to seal Chiefs’ victory in front of a passionate crowd at Sisa Dukashe Stadium.
The Amakhosi coach made a few substitutions during the game, bringing on Thabo Mokoena for Lorenzo Gordinho at half-time. Sizwe Twala was in the 70th minute replaced by Reamohetse Lekoatsa, followed in the 75th minute when Kgomotso Rorwana came on for Sabelo Radebe.
Mashiane deservedly walked away with the Man of the Match accolade after an excellent performance.
“I’m glad we displayed good football and scored goals as well,” concluded Zwane, “although we must work hard on our consistency
