Kaizer Chiefs Reserves proved too strong for SuperSport United Reserves when they came from behind to beat them 4-2 in a pulsating DStv Diski Shield match staged at Wits Stadium on Sunday.
It was SuperSport United who drew first blood when they scored an early goal through Tendamudzimu Matodzi in the 6th minute of the match. Chiefs leveled matters in the 11th minute through Aiden McCarthy. Chiefs took the lead in the 25th minute when on-form Wandile Duba made it 2-1 with an opportunistic goal for the Glamour Boys. Duba doubled up 10 minutes later to make it 3-1 for Amakhosi with a brilliant goal from outside the box.
The teams went into the half-time break will Amakhosi in the lead.
The second half was equally interesting as the young Matsatsantsa pulled one back in the 58th minute to make it 3-2 when Matodzi scored again for the Pretoria side. Amakhosi responded shortly after that through second-half substitute Puso Dithejane to make it 4-2.
Duba who won the top goalscorer trophy at last weekend’s Engen tournament was named the Diski Shield man of the match for his efforts.
Chiefs Reserves will now advance to the semi-final of the top 8 competition and have been drawn to face Mamelodi Sundowns Reserves next weekend.
Other semi-finalists are Chippa United and Stellenbosch Reserve sides.
Venues and kick off times will be confirmed soon.
