On Sunday 8 October, Amakhosi will bring down the curtain to the week-long showpiece when they tackle the local team and fellow PSL campaigners, Bloemfontein Celtic.
“We are looking forward to once more be part of this festival of activities,” Football Manager Bobby Motaung mentioned about Amakhosi's participation in the historic 20th anniversary year of Macufe.
“To us, this is not only about the match,” Motaung added. “It is being part of ‘Setso’ (Culture). We’ve seen before that Bloemfontein will be abuzz with people from far and wide. And we want to be part of them, as most will be Chiefs supporters.”
Amakhosi go into the battlefield against Siwelele Sa Masele as the defending champions. Edmore Chirambadare, Siphiwe Tshabalala, who also won the Man of the Match award, Bernard Parker and Keagan Buchanan scored to give Amakhosi a 4-1 win in last season’s instalment.
“This match will give our technical team a chance to rectify the mistakes we made in our last PSL fixture,” Motaung explained, while referring to last weekend’s 2-1 loss at Baroka FC. “It is also the FIFA break and we want to keep our match fitness in preparation for the upcoming tight fixture schedule.”
Chiefs will face Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates after the break.
“All in all it’s about our community engagement through arts and culture,” concluded Motaung.
“We look forward to the match and it’s all systems go on our side. We just wish the entire festival success and for the people to enjoy peacefully. Drive safe as Arrive Alive must be the order of the day.”
