It will be the second meeting between the teams in just over two weeks as Chiefs will host Arrows this Saturday in a league game and will have a run out against them again as the month draws to a close.
Speaking to kaizerchiefs.com for the first time since Monday’s draw for the ABSA Cup round of 32, Amakhosi coach Ernst Middendorp was of the opinion that opening the tournament against a PSL club would be of benefit to his team.
The Chiefs coach said; “prior to the draw I did say that I would have preferred to start off the tournament by playing against tougher opponents. I feel playing against Arrows will be an advantage for us as we start off with a competitive match”.
In three cup games since 2002 against Arrows, The Amakhosi have always ended up on the winning side. It is a record which the Chiefs' coach is hoping to keep up on the 25th February.
“Chiefs have in the last five years had a good run in Cup matches against Arrows and obviously we would like to keep that streak going, it is important for us to start the Cup with a good performance and a convincing victory. That will set the tone for us for the rest of the tournament, as we saw last season when we won our first game against SuperSport it really laid the foundation for what was eventually a cup triumph”.
In what will be their first ABSA Cup meeting against Golden Arrows, the defending champions will be looking to be quickest out of the starting blocks as they look to keep their grip on the trophy. Kick Off for Chiefs ABSA Cup match will be at 15h15 on Sunday 25th February.
