Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has thrown caution some what to the wind ahead of his teams PSL encounter against, Benoni Premier United on Sunday as he has set about fielding five midfielders in a 4-5-1 formation. With the return of Siyabonga Nkosi the coach has broaden his attacking options from the midfield by using Nkosi and Gert Schalkwyk in supporting roles to aid Kaizer Junior up front. The Chiefs coach has had to make a number of other changes which are not tactical, but put down to the fact that Chiefs have once again been laid low by injuries.
Fabian McCarthy has been replaced in the centre of defence by Cyril Nzama, who also takes back his captaincy duties from McCarthy, Nzama starts his first game for Chiefs since November last year. Amongst Chiefs growing list of injuries is Ditheko Mototo who like McCarthy will miss Sunday’s match against Benoni United, after emerging from the midweek clash against Silver Stars with a knee problem.
David Obua who played no part in the Silver Stars game will replace Mototo, while Thabo Mooki who came on as a second half substitute against Silver Stars will play no part against Benoni as he too has joined Chiefs growing list of casualties.
Mooki’s ankle problems have thus opened up a way for Emmanuel Ngobese to find himself back in contention, Ngobese whose last appearance for Chiefs was against Orlando Pirates on the 9th December starts from the bench Sunday.
Siyabonga Nkosi who has returned from a one match suspension takes the place of David Radebe, and in the absence of Shaun Bartlett Ernst Middendorp will be looking towards Nkosi to turn both goal maker and scorer.
Perhaps a hint of good news for Chiefs has been the return to action of Derrick Spencer, Spencer returns to the Chiefs match day squad for the first time since late October 2006 when he had to undergo an operation.
