Amakhosi basking under celebrating the 50th anniversary milestone will look at this fixture to cement their lead in the Absa premiership. This is after turning the corner from a draw and loss in their previous matches with a resounding 3-0 win over Highlands Park on Wednesday.
City themselves are seeing the light after a series of losses and changes in their technical team - they have collected four points in their last two games.
Seventeen points separate the two teams, Chiefs with upper hand and topping the league with 38 points from 16 games played. City won’t be happy sitting in 11th position with 17 points in as many games.
The results board glorifies Amakhosi, undoubtedly so. Twice this year, Amakhosi conquered the Citizens. First in the first leg of the league, in a packed Newlands Stadium on 27 August 2019, Daniel Cardoso and Kearyn Baccus overturned Kermit Erasmus’s 3rd minute opener. In the Telkom Knockout L32, again packed to the rafters Cape Town Stadium witnessed another humdinger. Kermit Erasmus opened the scoring in the 34th minute and Samir Nurković canceled their lead in the 84th minute. Amakhosi went on to settle the score in a shootout to advance to the quarterfinals.
The stage is set, with Amakhosi still in their celebratory mood, all roads will be leading to FNB Stadium on Sunday.
