Cosmos an interesting prospect on Sunday
Cosmos an interesting prospect on Sunday

Posted in News on Jan 19, 2007.

We have been hard at work over the past week preparing for our game this Sunday against a Jomo Cosmos team who have set the PSL ablaze, since fixtures for the New Year resumed about two weeks.

Cosmos are the form team at the moment having won all their games in 2007, since the resumption of matches earlier this month they have also recorded victories over Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits.

Coming up against a team like Cosmos who are presently on top of the game is a challenge we are looking forward to, our main aim for the season is to win the league and to do so we have to hold our own against teams who are also competing for honours.

Despite the fact that Cosmos have parted with their top goal scorer Chris Katongo, who recently left them to go and further his career in Denmark they have not really missed him. Cosmos have a number of capable goal scorers the likes of Anthony Laffor who was key to Cosmos win over Bidvest Wits, last weekend and it was a convincing victory too. I do feel that with the way we played against Silver Stars followed up with the win against Benoni United, with the current competition for places in the team. Our confidence is high and the team are really looking forward to this game, it is theses kinds of games against teams who are really flying high that brings out the best in the guys.

An example of this is that prior to a game against the likes of Sundowns or Orlando Pirates, a coach does not need too much to motivate his team - just the thought of coming up against these heavy weights is enough motivation to get the engines revving. The same can be said ahead of this game as the guys have all been putting in extra effort this week as the match against Cosmos approaches.

With regards to other news from the camp, we have loaned out midfielder Lucky Mzizi to Amazulu, in the hope that he will get to play a couple of matches while he is there over the next couple of months. There can be no doubting the fact that Lucky is a player who has good technique and pace; he was up against some tough competition for a place in the team.

Lucky was competing against the likes of Arthur Zwane, David Mathebula, Gerald Sibeko as well as Siyabonga Nkosi and it was always going be to be a challenge to make a break through into the first team. This way with a loan deal he will get the chance to play more regularly and I am sure he will be able to make a meaningful contribution while he is on loan, we will asses him upon his return in May.

On the injury front, Rotson Kilambe and Ditheko Mototo continued through the week without any problems. We do still have signs hanging over the availability of Fabian McCarthy who is still in the process of recovering from a hamstring injury he picked up against Silver Stars a few weeks ago. Possibly joining Fabian on the sidelines this weekend could be Gerald Sibeko, who took a knock in training on Thursday and was unable to continue.

We will wait until Saturday afternoon to see whether or not he will be available for section for Sunday’s encounter, we are though planning to be with out him for the Cosmos game.

Till next week keep up the support and hope to address you all again on Monday after another successful weekend.
