Keagan Dolly has entered the Bafana Bafana camp in a buoyant mood, boosted by a debut Soweto Derby double that ensured victory for Amakhosi over their old rivals.

After a long absence from the national team, Dolly is delighted that his sparkling Chiefs form this season has earned him a recall to the Bafana squad from coach Hugo Broos, as he looks to impart his skill and experience to Bafana’s push for Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification.

“After a big win in the Soweto Derby, I’m very excited to join Bafana. My Derby debut was a very good experience, especially since we won. It’s something I’ve always wanted to be a part of and to experience. I got the opportunity and luckily enough I scored two goals,” Dolly told www.kaizerchiefs.com ahead of Bafana’s massive World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe at FNB Stadium on Thursday.

But while he was happy with his individual contribution against Pirates, he was far happier with Chiefs’ team performance and their collective progression.

“We’re doing well as a team, sticking to our process, scoring goals and creating chances. As a team we really worked hard together, we defended well, we really showed character, especially in the last minutes after conceding the goal and it being 1-1. The boys really showed the drive and the spirit, you could feel it, even after the game in the dressing room. The boys were really happy. Hopefully, we can just continue working hard and enjoy the journey as a team and start collecting more points,” Dolly basked in the glow of Derby victory.

The attacking midfielder has been buzzing for Chiefs this season, scoring five goals and making three assists to add the impetus Amakhosi have badly needed.

Now, though, he turns all his attention to supporting the national team on their tough task of FIFA World Cup qualification. And while he and Khama Billiat have been sensational in tandem in Gold and Black this season, on Thursday they could well be on opposite sides in tough circumstances – at Amakhosi’s FNB Stadium home ground no less.

“I’m very excited to join the Bafana team. It’s a very exciting team of talented youngsters. The boys have been playing well, they’re on top of the group. For me it’s just to come in and help where I can to try and help us to qualify for the next stage of the qualifiers. We know Zimbabwe are a very difficult team to play against. We know most of their players play in the PSL, so we get to see them week in and week out. But if we just stick to what we have been doing and try to win, we’ll do good on the day. It’s a very massive week for Bafana. We should focus on the two games coming up, starting with Zimbabwe on Thursday and then we can start focusing on Ghana. I’m quite excited and looking forward to the rest of the camp,” Dolly added.
