Amakhosi assistant coach Frank Eulberg received a pleasant surprise on Wednesday morning when he trudged into his favourite coffee shop in a northern Johannesburg mall to find his wife Jeanette seated at a table waiting to greet him.

What is the surprise in that one might be tempted to ask - the answer is simple Frank had expected his wife to be back in Wolfsburg in Germany. The furthest thought from Frank’s mind on Wednesday morning was of the possibility of being able to spend Valentine’s Day with his wife.

How did Mrs Eulberg hatch up the plan to get to Johannesburg with out her husband getting wind of it, she explains further, “I had not seen Frank in a couple of months and I thought that it would be a good idea if I turned up in South Africa without his knowledge.

“I really did not plan any thing further than getting on to a plane and heading to Johannesburg, thankfully when I got to Frankfurt airport Ingrid Dinkelacker (wife of Chiefs goalkeeper coach Rainer Dinkelacker) was also on her way to South Africa.

“So I explained to her what my plan was and she told me not to worry because her husband would be picking her up at OR Tambo Airport, once we got to Johannesburg we would take it from there”.

Unaware of the plan his wife had thought up, Frank made his way on Wednesday morning to the coffee shop thinking that he was to collect a present sent to him by his family, as he walked into the store there lay the surprise of his life.

Frank explains, “as I entered the coffee shop I thought I saw my wife from a distance, I looked again and I thought no it is not possible she is supposed to be in Germany. I must say that she caught me offside, this is the best Valentine’s Day present I could have received”.

Amakhosi goalkeeper coach Rainer Dinkelacker, who had turned up at the OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg to pick up his wife Ingrid, was also taken aback when Jeanette Eulberg casually strolled out of the arrivals hall with Ingrid.

“I was not expecting to find Jeanette, Frank did not say that she was coming to Johannesburg and I planned on phoning him when I saw her. The ladies explained to me what was going on and as soon as we got to the mall I telephoned him and told him to meet me immediately. The look of shock when he walked into see Jeanette there will remain in my mind for a very long time”.

Having been caught off guard by the arrival of his wife on Valentine’s Day, Frank managed to get back on his feet, and kept with the status quo of this global day when people around the world show additional love and affection on that special someone.

Frank and Jeanette also found the time later in the day to join the rest of the Chiefs team at the Wanderers Cricket Stadium in Johannesburg, to watch South African take on Pakistan in the fifth and final one day international match.
