Kaizer Chiefs beat Stars 1-0 thanks to Siphiwe Tshabalala’s header in the 71st minute.
“We will gain confidence from this win,” a gracious Komphela remarked, “although we are not playing as fluent as we should and we didn’t perform well in the first half. But a win is a win.
“Itumeleng Khune and Siphiwe Tshabalala have loads of experience and that’s something you can't buy in a supermarket. It was a good decision to start with Bernard Parker and ‘Shabba’ on the bench, as they made an immediate impact after coming on in the second half.
“Shabba provided us with options. Don’t forget as well that we still have to continuously adjust as we have a few important players out injured. Luckily, these are now getting close to full fitness, which will give us a nice headache when it comes to team selection.”
On the question of raiding the market during the January transfer window, Komphela said, “Scouting for new players is a continuing process that doesn’t stop. We will check the market for possibilities.”
Philani Zulu won the Man of the Match award after a sterling performance.
“Philani has energy and is adding nicely to our attack,” the Chiefs coach commented. “That's why we also brought in Wiseman Meyiwa as a substitute, so that our wing-backs could continue to go forward.”
Then, Komphela concluded, “We will take this win into our next game.”
Amakhosi now have nineteen points. After Saturday’s Absa Premiership games, Chiefs ascended to third position on the log with only a point separating them from the table leaders.
