Luckily for us, the wait is over as this weekend marks the start of a brand new season for the South African Premier Soccer League. Looking at how busy the transfer window has been for many clubs, it promises to be a very exciting season and we are looking forward to a great season.
As Kaizer Chiefs, we have made notable changes to the playing personnel by releasing ten players and onboarding five new players. We have also added youngsters from our development structures, including Given Thibedi, Bontle Molefe and Njabulo Blom towards the end of the previous season.
The process of making changes does not stop – it is ongoing and we always continue to look for suitable candidates for all identified departments. We continue to appeal for patience with the supporters as the process takes time and needs to done with great care.
As we said at the end of last season, the rebuilding process for the 2019/20 season and beyond is aimed at ensuring that we restore this iconic institution to where it rightfully belongs - at the summit of South African football.
Our supporters have always carried the club and continue to do so. They demonstrated by buying tickets last week and filling up the stadium. We hope to see more full stadiums this season.
As we embark on another journey this season, it is encouraging that we start the season with another sold out stadium when we visit Highlands Park on Sunday, a clear demonstration that our people still love football and their club.
We will kick off our hosting by welcoming Black Leopards to our second home in Durban next weekend on the 10th August. KwaZulu-Natal is a special place for all us as Amakhosi and we call on our people to rally behind the team as they did last season at home matches at FNB and Moses Mabhida Stadiums.
The league has also extended the MultiChoice Diski League to a fully-fledged league. This will see our Reserve team play 30 games in the new season. A very important development for young footballers. Our MDC will also be in Durban on the 10th August.
We once again thank all our people for your undying love and unwavering support through thick and thin.
We are looking forward to the 2019/20 season. This season will see this iconic institution celebrate 50 years of existence and we sure will celebrate with our people who’ve carried the Kaizer Chiefs for 5 decades.
In conclusion, I’d like to wish all our women a happy Women’s Month. You are our pillars and this world is a better place because of you. We appreciate all that you do for our society.
