Chiefs host Stellenbosch in a Nedbank Cup Last 16 fixture at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 10 March (kick-off is at 20:15).
Orlando Pirates edged Amakhosi 3-1 in a league fixture last weekend. The loss means that Chiefs are now eight points behind league log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with still seven matches to play.
“We have to look forward,” Cardoso points out. “The challenge for the league title is not over as yet, but our focus is now on the Nedbank Cup. We just have to keep going.”
The centre-back has been one of Chiefs’ best players this season. He has started in 25 matches (league and cup) this season, coming on in a further two.
The Glamour Boys beat Golden Arrows 3-0 in the previous round of the Nedbank Cup with Ryan Moon, Bernard Parker and Joseph Molangoane finding the back of the net. Stellenbosch beat Highlands Park. Igraam Rayners scored the winner for the side based in the Western Province.
Cardoso prefers not to speculate too much about Amakhosi’s chances to win the Nedbank Cup. “Our focus is on the Stellenbosch match. We take it one game at a time. Hopefully, we will go all the way to the final.”
Tickets are sold at TicketPro (including CNA, Edgars, Jet Mart, Postnet) for R60.00.
