National Under-23 coach, David Notoane has named five Kaizer Chiefs players in his 29-man preliminary squad to face Congo in a two-legged Olympic qualifying tie this month.
The quintet includes two players from the DDC team, defender Omega Mdaka and midfielder, Puso Dithejane, plus goalkeeper Bontle Molefe, midfielder, Samkelo Zwane and forward, Mdu Shabalala, all of whom were recently promoted from the Reserves to the first team squad at Naturena.
South Africa are due to host their Congolese counterparts at Dobsonville Stadium on Thursday, 23 March, before travelling to contest the return leg at Massamba-Debat Stadium in Brazzaville on 26/ 27 March.
This news comes on the back of three of the Club’s youth players, Lonwabo Mbuyisa, Imaad Hendricks and Neo Bohloko, being chosen to represent the nation in a four team Under-16 international tournament in Poland at the end of the month.
At senior level, goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has been called up to coach Hugo Broos’ 35-man preliminary squad to face Liberia in a 2023 Afcon qualifying double-header, while defender Edmilson Dove will join up with Mozambique to meet Senegal home and away. Likewise, Burundi have summoned the services of Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana for a training camp.
