Kaizer Chiefs defender Reeve Frosler’s wonder strike which put Chiefs 1-0 up against Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates in a DStv Premiership game on 5 March has seen him pick up the award for best goal in the league for February and March 2022.

“It feels nice and special to win an award for a goal that came in a game like this, a Soweto Derby. It feels so much more significant to me given the game and the stage,” an overjoyed Frosler said of the award for the goal which helped Chiefs to a 2-1 Derby win.

“I saw the ball played to Khama (Billiat) and I thought let me just go forward, it came to Bernard (Parker), he set me up and when I struck the ball, all I thought was hit through the ball and get it on target. I hit through the ball, it was on target and as soon as I hit it I thought the keeper had the ball, but then I saw he did not get a strong hand to it and I thought ‘Yoh! it went in’,” he adds.

Frosler is hoping this DStv goal of the month award sparks an avalanche of goals for Chiefs as he further says: “Let’s go for more of these awards and let’s hope we can score more goals this season.”

The Chiefs defender got the public vote ahead of goals from Maritzburg United’s Keegan Ritchie and teammate Friday Samu, Orlando Pirates’ Goodman Mosele, Cape Town City’s Khanyiso Mayo, Sekhukhune’s Vusimuzi Mncube, Golden Arrows’ Knox Mutizwa, as well as Mamelodi Sundowns’ trio of Khuliso Mudau, Haashim Domingo and Lyle Lakay.
