“We feel a bit disappointed on what transpired,” coach Steve Komphela looked back on the one-all draw against Orlando Pirates. “It was a game of small margins.”
The Soweto Derby was an entertaining game to watch for the spectators, but coaches often have a different opinion, always eying a win.
“We missed a penalty, five minutes before the end of the match,” the Kaizer Chiefs coach continues. “That clouds a bit my opinion at the moment.”
Willard Katsande, who otherwise delivered a sterling performance, missed the penalty, as his weak shot was stopped by the Buccaneers keeper.
Asked if he already spoke with the midfielder about the spot kick, Komphela comments: “No, not yet. I also don’t want to blame anybody. It happens. I was desperate to win, but talking to Willard now doesn’t help, the match is finished.”
Pirated had probably the better first half, dominating at stages and if it wasn’t for Itumeleng Khune they could probably have found the back of the net two or three times. However, it was Chiefs that opened the score thanks to Joseph Molangoane, only for the Bucs to equalise before half-time.
Chiefs had the better second half, which led Komphela to the following conclusion: “I just hate it that we couldn’t win the game, despite getting enough chances to do so.”
The Glamour Boys next travel to Cape Town to face first division side Stellenbosch FC in a Nedbank Cup Last 32 clash at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday evening, 11 March (kick-off is at 20:15).
