Teenage Hadebe made his Kaizer Chiefs debut in the first round league fixture against AmaZulu on Wednesday, 22 November 2017. Amakhosi will host Usuthu in the second round Absa Premiership clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 17 March (kick-off is at 18:00).
Hadebe’s performances have improved tremendously since making his debut, earning his place in the squad. After the AmaZulu encounter, which ended in a goalless draw, the Zimbabwean has started in another 11 matches.
He joined Chiefs at the beginning of the 2017/2018 season from Zimbabwe’s Chicken Inn.
“The intensity of the game is much higher in South Africa compared to Zimbabwe,” Hadebe says. “It’s faster as well. So I had to adapt in the beginning, but I am happy that I keep on improving with every match.”
The 22-year-old has been selected for the Zimbabwean national team for the upcoming four- nations tournament that will take place in Zambia next week. South Africa and Angola are also participating. “It would be great if South Africa and Zimbabwe could meet each other in the final,” Hadebe comments with a big smile on his face.
Before that happens, however, there is the league match against AmaZulu. “They have a good side,” the Bulawayo-born defender says. “However, we are still disappointed with the Orlando Pirates defeat, despite our win over Stellenbosch FC last week. We want to make it up to our supporters and that means that we will have to beat AmaZulu.”
Amakhosi are presently in fifth position on the Absa Premiership, having collected 35 points from 22 matches, while Usuthu are down in 13th spot (27 points from 23 games).
Chiefs have been doing well defensively this season. “As a defender you never want to concede goals,” Hadebe admits, “and we are frustrated if we do. But the most important priority is that we win.”
