“It is another sad moment of our times,” reacts Kaizer Chiefs Chairman Kaizer Motaung to the news of journalist S’Busiso Mseleku’s passing on. “I am sad because S’bu was an important part of our football. S’bu was one of the best South African journalists we’ve had in South Africa. He was not only a journalist, he loved football. I will remember his critical writing and mostly his humility.”
The legendary writer died on Monday, at the age of 59, reportedly from complications after contracting Covid-19.
Mseleku will be remembered for his sterling work of journalism at various media house including The Sowetan, Lumumba Sports, SABC and sport editor at City Press.
“S’bu was a gentleman who loved football, in particular Kaizer Chiefs,” reveals Motaung. “But his love for Chiefs did not distract him from his work as a journalist. I have conducted several interviews with him and just this year he played a prominent role during our 50th Anniversary celebrations in Phefeni. He was full of life and conducted several sessions with aplomb. Little did we know that it was our parting shot with him.”
At the time of his passing S’bu was running his media platform called S’bu Mseleku Sports after retiring from City Press last year.
“Given how S’bu was as person, very energetic and active as he was, there will be many fond memories to comfort the family in this sad time,” says Motaung, “In Psalms 147:3 we learn that God heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds. Furthermore, Psalm 55:22 advises us to cast our burden upon the Lord and He will sustain us; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken. I trust that the family will find solace in the almighty as you go through this valley of darkness. God be with you.”
