Humble Khama looking to keep his Midas touch

His electric recent performances have got Kaizer Chiefs fans excited, but with great maturity Khama Billiat is playing down the hype and focusing on “getting the basics right” to ensure Amakhosi maintain the steady progress they’ve been making.

He scored two breathtaking goals in helping Chiefs sink Swallows FC 3-1 over the weekend to help the club into second spot on the DStv Premiership standings.

Billiat has had nine goal involvements in 12 league appearances this campaign, scoring 4 goals and making 5 assists as he and Keagan Dolly have rekindled their football bromance in Amakhosi colours.

But while happy with his and the team’s form, Billiat is definitely not getting carried away with the win over Swallows on Sunday.

“We are professional enough. We used to celebrate when we were young right? Now, we celebrate in a professional way. We don’t need to be out there celebrating like the league is finished. We have to stay focused,” Billiat calmly told www.kaizerchiefs.com after the Swallows win.

With Amakhosi making six changes from last week’s draw against AmaZulu, which he had to sit out, Billiat’s return was a boost and he put up the kind of showing that was needed to help Chiefs get the three points on offer.

“I want to thank God for this opportunity and for keeping us strong. You know we are living in a difficult time right now. We pray to God that he keeps us strong and that we have this strong team,” Billiat said with continued maturity.

“We have got a strong squad and I always trust my boys, whether I play or don’t play we are positive about the result and we work hard like we always do. I am happy for the team and I am happy that we keep getting stronger and stronger. We understand each other and the importance of collecting the maximum points that we needed.”

The Zimbabwean international, who has now made an assist in each of the last three league games he has featured in for Chiefs, is not focusing much on the fact that Chiefs have lost just one of their last nine games, winning five of those.

Having moved up into second place on the log, he has stressed that Amakhosi are looking to continue putting in the hard time on the training ground to further improve.

“It’s not easy, but we are not looking at the table,” he stressed. “Right now, we want to focus on the things that the coaches want us to do and focus on getting the basics right, which will always help us get the good results and performances and then we will look at the table afterwards. We will stay focused and humble and we keep on working hard for the team.”

The 31-year-old will bring up a century of appearances for Chiefs the next time he turns out for the Club, a milestone he will be targeting to achieve against Cape Town City this coming Saturday at FNB Stadium.

He has definitely had the Midas touch this season. In all of the five league games wherein he has assisted or scored a goal, Chiefs have won.
