As the season finale approaches, Kaizer Chiefs cannot afford not to win handsomely against Cape Town City at the DHL stadium in the Mother City on Saturday if they are to claim a Top 8 finish in the 2023/24 DStv Premiership. Coach Cavin Johnson spoke to www.kaizerchiefs.com as they wound up preparation for this important fixture:
On the week’s training:
Well, it’s the final game of the season so we’ve just finished the last few days of training with the players. From my side, I am happy with what I consider a very good week of preparation.
We are well aware of the importance of the match, and what is at stake, a Top 8 finish, so we have a clear idea of what we have to do, which is win against Cape Town Spurs.
On the state of the squad:
We have more than 10 players unavailable for reasons such as injury and suspension, so we will go there with the personnel we have. I have confidence in them to be able to get the result we need to finish eighth.
On the opposition:
They may already be relegated but that means nothing to me. Only our own situation matters to me and I am concentrating on what we need to achieve. I expect Cape Town Spurs to put in a good performance and challenge us in front of their fans, because every team takes it up a level when they face Kaizer Chiefs. Therefore, we are focused on playing at our best and, if we do that, we will reap the rewards.
