Amakhosi are presently in tenth position on the MultiChoice Diski Challenge log, having five points from four games. Next up are Free State Stars Reserves who are in third position with nine points from four matches. The encounter will take place at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont, Durban, on Sunday, 14 October (kick-off is at 12:00).
The Chiefs Reserves played some good football against SuperSport Reserves and created by far the most chances. “We should have done better defensively,” admitted Zwane, “because it shouldn’t happen that they score twice from set-pieces.
“We also need to be sharper in front of goal, but that’s football. I am happy about our performance, although obviously not about the result.”
Khotso Malope and Kabelo Mahlasela netted the goals for Amakhosi and both first team squad players showed fine form. Stand out performances worth mentioning came from Given Thibedi, Wiseman Meyiwa and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.
About Sunday’s fixture against Free State Stars Reserves, Zwane remarks: “They play a kind of route-one football with two wingers whipping in crosses from the flanks. We are ready and are prepared to fight hard for the three points.”
To conclude, the coach comments on the relatively low position on the log table. “I am not too bothered at this stage. It’s not how you start a league campaign, it’s how you finish. We intend to win the MDC this season.”
