Top-of-the-table Kaizer Chiefs will walk on to their ancestral home, Orlando Stadium knowing a win against the 9th placed Stellenbosch will have a huge impact on the Absa Premiership title race.
“It is really up to us to forget about the defeat in the last game,” reiterates Middendorp. “We know Stellenbosch and just as we have seen with the other teams, they will step up and want to beat us. There won’t be surprises - we know that when teams come to us, their play and approach will be different.”
In the last three matches, Amakhosi have drawn, won, and lost against Bidvest Wits, Polokwane City and Bloemfontein Celtic, respectively. Stellenbosch have so far won all their matches in the bio bubble, claiming the scalps of Golden Arrows and Cape Town City.
“We have no less than five players on three yellow cards,” reveals Middendorp, “but that is not a handicap, and it is not our reference point. The criteria we use is how fresh the player is and how qualified he is to take on Stellenbosch tonight.”
Five of Middendorp’s troops sit on three yellow cards each. They are Lebogang Manyama, Mulomowandau Mathoho, Daniel Cardoso, Willard Katsande and Samir Nurković.
Middendorp confirms that Manyama will not be available for selection against Stellies due to a niggle. “We are monitoring him, and we will not involve him in this evening’s match.”
Kick-off is at 18:00. Match commentary will be available on Kaizer Chiefs twitter @KaizerChiefs, and broadcasted live on SS4 and SABC radio.
