The Glamour Boys have an excellent defensive record this season, only conceding 11 goals in 18 Absa Premiership matches. Khune, who missed the first two games, let through eight of these goals, while he kept a clean sheet in nine league encounters.
Sundowns, on the other hand, have conceded 17 goals in 18 league clashes. However, they scored 34 times, while Chiefs have netted 17 goals so far.
Positive is that Amakhosi have scored four goals in the last two matches, with Ryan Moon scoring twice, while Dumsani Zuma and newly signed Leonardo Castro found the back of the net as well.
“We have to deliver a result and we also want to entertain the crowd,” Khune looked ahead to Saturday night’s clash earlier this week at a press conference held at the headquarters of Chiefs’ medical scheme partners Medshield.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper has started in 231 league matches for the Glamour Boys since making his debut in 2007.
He was in excellent form when Chiefs beat Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld in October, as Khune has been in most matches this 2017/2018 season. He has already been selected four times as the Absa Premiership Man of the Match for his sterling performances in goal.
On the question whether Amakhosi can beat the Brazilians again, he reacts with a straightforward and clear, “yes”.
Chiefs are presently in third position on the Absa Premiership log, five points behind Sundowns (29 versus 34 points).
“We know that we have dropped a few points unnecessarily,” Khune admits, before pointing out that “we have collected seven points from the three league matches played so far this year.”
The goalkeeper pleads with the Khosi Nation to come and attend Saturday’s crucial match against the Brazilians in great numbers: “Please support us and you will witness a great game of football.”
The Absa Premiership fixture between Chiefs and Sundowns will take place at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 27 January (kick-off at 20:15).
Tickets can be bought from Computicket outlets as well as Shoprite and Checkers stores from R40 per ticket. Parking tickets start at R30 per ticket.
Toyota-driving supporters, however, can still pick-up free and secure parking tickets for the Toyota Zone at FNB Stadium at any of our KC Stores in Gauteng on Saturday. They can also be collected at Chiefs Village, Naturena, on Saturday, between 9:00 and 14:00.
