Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson takes charge of his first match this afternoon against Lamontville Golden Arrows in the KZN town of Hammardale. Johnson took the reigns from coach Molefi Ntseki, who parted ways with Amakhosi at the start of the week.
Coach Johnson’s immediate task will be to turn things around as the team found itself on the losing side in the last two matches. His job will see him tackle the high flying Arrows who are in third position on the log, with 17 points collected after 8 matches. Chiefs will need to move up the table as they find themselves in an unfamiliar 8th spot with 11 points after 9 matches.
Chiefs welcome Brandon Petersen back from injury in this match. The shot-stopper missed Amakhosi’s last two matches. Another player returning is full-back S’fiso Hlanti.
The match will be played under treacherous weather conditions due to incessant rain earlier in the day.
Even though he has made five changes to the line-up, the new coach has not changed the team’s formation, as they maintain 4-3-3 structure.
Johnson’s first line-up sees Petersen replace Itumeleng Khune in goal. Khune will be on the bench.
S’fiso Hlanti replaces Edmilson Dove at left-back. Thatayaone Ditlhokwe is at centre-back with Njabulo Ngcobo. Reeve Frosler retains his position on right of Amakhosi’s defence.
Sibongiseni Mthethwa is in midfield. He will have Yusuf Maart and Edson Castillo, who replaces George Matlou, just in front of him.
In attack, Keagan Dolly is on the left, with the young Mduduzi Shabalala coming on for Tebogo Potsane on the right.
Christian Saile replaces Ranga Chivaviro in attack.
Dolly is the captain of the team.
The match referee for this match is Abongile Tom. His assistants are Luyanda Nondala and Sbusiso Sisilana. The fourth official is Lalelani Mngadi.
The DStv Premiership match between Amakhosi and Abafana Besthende kicks off at 15:30 at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale. The match is live on SuperSport’s PSL Channel 202 on DStv and SABC radio stations - with regular updates of the match on Twitter @KaizerChiefs.
