In a show of unity and excitement, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns joined forces at Vodacom in Midrand for a joint media press conference, ahead of their thrilling encounter at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
The two teams, both boasting impressive two-win starts to the season, will clash in a crucial Betway Premiership match, with only goal difference separating them on the log standings.
Kaizer Chiefs head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, emphasised his team's mission to reclaim their position in South African football. "Our first mission is to bring Kaizer Chiefs back to its place in South African football. It's a project; the mission is for us to win, and that will help the team going forward," he said.
Defender Inacio Miguel, fresh from his man-of-the-match performance against Amazulu, echoed Nabi's sentiments, stating, "Honestly, we have to focus on one thing; we cannot focus on resting because it won't change. We must be conscious that we have 48 hours to recover and be in the best shape for Saturday's game."
Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Manqoba Mngqithi, vowed to approach the match with respect. "It's too early for anyone to think they've found their groove,” he said, “When you go into this match without respecting the opponents, you'll be naive and ignorant."
The press conference, attended by key stakeholders which included Stadium Management CEO, Bertie Grobbelaar ,and JMPD's Xolani Fihla, served as a platform to share vital information with fans. Over 40 000 tickets have already been sold, doubling the number from the last encounter between the two teams at FNB Stadium.
Vodacom's Group Chief for HR, Matimba Mbungela, welcomed attendees and expressed confidence in the match's potential. "Great start to the season,” he began, adding, “Yesterday was a very good game. Looking forward to Saturday, as both teams have started off well."
Kaizer Chiefs Marketing and Commercial Director, Jessica Motaung, praised the Amakhosi supporters' unwavering enthusiasm. "The country is on fire! I must thank the Chiefs supporters who have shown their love for the game. We're looking forward to our supporters coming out in numbers over the weekend," she said in appreciation.
Coach Mngqithi, also commended the collaborative effort to promote the match. "One must first have a sense of gratitude,” he expressed, “It's a good thing when clubs collaborate and have a press conference like this. It sends a good message to supporters – we're not going to war; we're going to a game of football."
