“It was great work of attitude and chemistry that saw us through,” reflects Middendorp after the Absa Premiership game against Bloemfontein Celtic. “I will not highlight the mishaps of the first half. The positives that came through in the second half are worth praising the team for coming back to win the match.”
Kaizer Chiefs showed class when they disposed of a gallant Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday night 5-3 after 90 entertaining minutes of football. Samir Nurković netted his first hat-trick for Amakhosi and Leonardo Castro contributed a brace of goals to the score line.
“The mishaps and individual errors didn’t mean much in terms of the quality in our team,” adds Middendorp. “We didn’t take three to five days to recover, we came back after the break and rectified our mistakes. We took them on one on one situations. We even took a risk of going on an all-out attack. That’s a sign of quality and intention to go all the way to keep the winning momentum.”
On the 1000th goal mark in PSL era, he says: “Yes this is an important milestone to achieve. I’m glad Leonardo Castro scored this landmark goal and mainly contributing to a win. These are important highlight and products of the teamwork.”
On the first hat-trick in six seasons, “Yes, another one to highlight,” adds Middendorp. “It is all in the attitude and the quality of the player. Samir Nurković works tirelessly for the team. He deserved the goals and the Man of the Match tag.”
Chiefs have now gone a record 8 wins in a row. “We are emphasizing this in our team talk,” says Middendorp who’s on a one-year anniversary since rejoining the Glamour Boys as Head Coach. “We want to keep the momentum. We want to keep working hard in each and every game. The team is well aware of this.
“We have already started with preparations for the next match. The last match of the year is the most important agenda point for us.”
Chiefs’ next challenge is a trip to Harry Gwala Stadium in the capital city of KwaZulu Natal to face Maritzburg United on the 22nd December.
