Amakhosi attacker Lazalous Kambole wants nothing more than to get back onto the field of play and help Kaizer Chiefs continue with their quest for a fifth Absa Premiership title. With Chiefs currently leading the standing, Kambole is confident that Amakhosi have enough experience to navigate through what will be a challenging remaining eight games when the season does resume.

Speaking after Chiefs morning training session, an upbeat Kambole says: “We are doing well as a team and personally, I feel good. Training has been fantastic this week and I am very much enjoying being back.”

The Zambian international who joined Chiefs at the start of the 2019-20 season is pleased to have started training with his teammates again. “It’s good to be back - we missed football. I missed my teammates, so it’s good to be around them again.  It’s fantastic to be doing what we enjoy and that is playing football.”

Kambole is not holding back in training and is doing all he can to ensure that when the season resumes, he is in good shape. “My body is managing with the training regime since we returned. I am happy with my fitness because even during the lockdown when we were training on our own, we were pushing ourselves hard. Training as a group was a challenge for the first week after we returned, but right now, I am happy with everything.

“I am putting in a lot of hard work looking and forward to resuming play again. As a team, we are on right track and we are doing a lot to ensure that we will be ready when we play our first game.”

The 26-year-old’s only focus now is to help Chiefs retain their place at the top of the standings. He believes Chiefs have enough experience and the personnel to help ensure the season ends successfully for Amakhosi.

“We are professionals and we know how to handle the challenges that lie ahead.  Being the log leaders requires a lot of hard work from the team because the pressure is on us,” he says. “Response from each player is good and we are working in the right direction and I am certain we will continue from where we left off before the lockdown”

With Chiefs now focused on the restart, Kambole feels that he is in a good position to help the team. And with his inaugural season at the club being prolonged due to the delay caused by the coronavirus crisis, he believes he has found his footing at the club.

“It has been a season of adaptation for me,” he concludes. “I have gotten used to the coach’s philosophy, the environment, the style of play and have a better understanding of my teammates. We are headed in the right direction.”

Chiefs led the standings when the league was suspended in March. The Phefeni Glamour Boys will be looking to continue leading the charge when the Absa Premiership resumes as we have eight more league games to play in the 2019-20 season.
