Keagan Dolly struggles to explain the telepathic relationship he has on the football pitch with Khama Billiat, but Kaizer Chiefs fans will be ecstatic Chippa United bore the full brunt of this partnership in the DStv Premiership.
Dolly was twice teed up by Billiat to score a brace against Chippa, and he returned the favour for Billiat to score in an emphatic 4-0 victory in which Chiefs were just too hot for the Chilli Boys over the weekend.
“With me and Khama I don’t know how to explain it. If I’m on the ball I know which run he is going to make and he knows how to run and where I am going to pass it. And vice versa, if he’s on the ball I know what to do. This started in 2012 when I met him at Ajax Cape Town and it’s just been building and growing. You can see when we play together that we just understand each other,” Dolly said of his special football relationship with the Zimbabwean international.
Amakhosi had been playing well without finding the finishing product in the DStv Premiership, but Dolly was delighted everything fell into place against Chippa.
“Overall we played well as a team against Chippa. We executed the game plan we had as a team. We were compact and defended and attacked as a team, and that showed. Over the past few games, you could see glimpses and patches where we played really well. The coach always tells us, if we make those patches even longer, we will keep on playing well and score goals and no team can stop us,” Dolly said of the Chippa game, in which he was named man of the match.
After an indifferent start to the season, Dolly says the team has been desperate to put things right and has been putting in the hard work on the training ground.
“We created chances and we took our chances. We’ve been working hard at training, and we’ve been working off the field on our confidence in front of goal. We saw it on Saturday,” says Dolly.
Of his own performance and his showing against Chippa, Dolly believes it shows where he is.
“I am working hard to show this week in and week out, it’s just the start,” emphasises Dolly. This isn’t the end, I’ll keep on working hard in order to help the team succeed. Even if I’m not playing well I’ll always give 100% for the team to succeed. This is a process about the whole team, not just about Keagan or whoever the individual is playing. It’s about Kaizer Chiefs and what we want to achieve as a team. We showed our class, hopefully, we can keep it going.”
The exciting playmaker says in conclusion the team was buoyed by playing Chippa on Kaizer Chiefs Chairman Kaizer Motaung’s 77th birthday.
“Huge congratulations to the team and a special birthday shoutout to our Chairman on his 77th birthday. Happy birthday, this one was for you,” concludes Dolly, as he and Amakhosi look to continue that winning feeling.
Chiefs next travel to face SuperSport United in the DStv Premiership on Sunday.
