Amakhosi will host Highlands Park at Moses Mabhida Stadium in an Absa Premiership fixture on Saturday, 2 March. Kick-off is at 18:00.
Akpeyi played with his former club, Chippa United, in a league fixture against Chiefs at Moses Mabhida in November 2018. The Nigerian was between the sticks for the Port Elizabeth-based side at the time. The game, which was played behind closed door, finished in a goalless draw.
“Moses Mabhida is a beautiful stadium,” the goalkeeper adds, “and it becomes even better when there is a good crowd in attendance.”
“Highlands Park are a good side,” comments Akpeyi about Saturday’s opponents. “They are very physical and they will try to come at us.
“We just have to stand our ground. We, on the other hand, are technically the better side.”
If Akpeyi will be in goal, it will be his third start for Chiefs since joining the club from Chippa United during the recent January transfer window.
The Nigerian international explains that he’s settling in nicely. “It always takes a bit of time to adapt. However, I am now getting to know the players and have got used to who will do what in certain game situations. We are starting to gel together.”
The Glamour Boys are in sixth position on the league table with 29 points from 21 games, while Highlands Park are three position lower with 26 points from as many matches.
“We will enter the pitch on Saturday with the aim to pick up the three points,” concludes the 32-year-old goalkeeper.
Tickets for the clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Highlands Park are available and can be purchased from Computicket outlets, as well as Shoprite and Checkers stores at R60 per ticket.
