This Workers' Day will see Kaizer Chiefs play their last of three home fixtures in Polokwane as they take on another Soweto side, Swallows FC, at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Chiefs have only had one full training session to prepare for this afternoon’s match following Thursday’s encounter in Gqeberha against Chippa United. Amakhosi won the match 1-0 at a near-capacity Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Similarly, Swallows have also had little time to prepare after beating Maritzburg United 1-0 on Thursday evening. The Dube Birds are still in the relegation quagmire in spite of winning their last match, and will want to win to ensure they keep their heads above water.
Coach Arthur Zwane did not tamper with the team that did duty against Chippa, except for the one enforced change that will see suspended goalkeeper Brandon Petersen being replaced by Itumeleng Khune this afternoon. Petersen picked up his fourth booking against the Chilli Boys on Thursday.
Chiefs were victorious in the first round of the match hosted by Swallows at Dobsonville Stadium in October. The injured duo of Caleb Bimenyimana and Keagan Dolly found the back of the net in that match.
Amakhosi sit in 4th spot on the log after 27 matches, with 44 points collected. Swallows are 13th, with 31 points in 27 outings.
With only the goalkeeping change, coach Zwane will keep to a 4-5-1 for this afternoon’s fixture.
Khune is this afternoon’s goalkeeper.
From left to right Chiefs have S’fiso Hlanti at the left-back position, Siyabonga Ngezana will be with Njabulo Ngcobo in central defence and last Thursday’s man of the match, Reeve Frosler is on the right.
Yusuf Maart is with Siyethemba Sithebe in midfield, with Mduduzi Shabalala just in front of the two central defenders.
Happy Mashiane will be on the left of attack and the man responsible for one of the best goals seen this season, Ashley Du Preez will run on the right.
Christian Saile Basomboli leads Amakhosi’s attack.
Khune will reclaim the captain’s armband.
Cedric Muvhali is this afternoon’s referee. Khumasi Razwimisani and Thabang Matlhong are his assistant. Joseph Makhubo is the fourth official.
The DStv Premiership encounter between the Glamour Boys and Maswaiswai commences at 15:00 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in the City of Polokwane. The match will be live on SuperSport’s PSL Channel 202 on DStv and various SABC radio stations - with regular updates of the match on Twitter @KaizerChiefs.
