Following the Democratic Republic of Congo’s African Cup of Nations qualifying fixture in Botswana on Saturday, Kidiaba, striker Bomboko Ngoy, midfielders Kanku Mulekeayi and Tshinyama Tsholola, and defenders Muamba Musasa and Dikulu Bageta will join Chiefs Congolese striker Kabamba Musasa on a flight back to SA, to meet up with their respective team-mates for the Vodacom Challenge final.
Kabamba Musasa found the back of the net (while David Radebe scored a hat-trick) during the Amakhosi’s 4-1 win over FC Lupopo in the Vodacom Challenge first leg match at the Mmabatho stadium last Sunday.
In line with the Vodacom Challenge slogan of ‘Mayibuye’ meaning ‘bring it home’, Musasa will be keen to get on to the score-sheet, after scoring the only goal of last year’s Vodacom Challenge final, to help his previous club FC Lupopo beat Chiefs at the same venue.
Premier Soccer League champions Orlando Pirates will play-off for third place in the Vodacom Challenge, when they come up against TP Mazembe’s Congolese rivals FC Lupopo at Absa stadium (12h30 kick-off).
Pirates’s hopes of collecting the Vodacom Challenge winner’s prize of R 1 million and lifting the coveted Kudu Horn trophy, were dashed when they were beaten by TP Mazembe on a penalty shootout in the second match of the day at the Mmabatho stadium on Sunday.
Sunday’s Vodacom Challenge action is an all-ticket affair, with organisers stating that tickets will not be on sale at the stadium on the day. With a stadium capacity of 37 000, over 25 000 tickets had been sold by the end of Thursday.
Twenty four thousand Smartcall Vodago air time vouchers valued at R200 each will be given away to fans that arrive early at the ABSA Stadium, while the distribution of 24 000 makarapas should add further colour and flavour to the climax of the 2003 Vodacom Challenge that has the potential of being one of the highlights on the 2003 African football calendar.
