Kaizer Chiefs concluded their pre-match preparation on Friday afternoon. Amakhosi are going into the match boosted by their current form and also their history against the visiting SuperSport United.
The bone of contention will be the passage to the semifinals of the Nedbank Cup.
Chiefs dressing room is buzzing with confidence at the moment. "We have only Brilliant Khuzwayo ruled out," revealed Komphela after taking his lads through the pre-match drills. "Otherwise everybody is ready and we have a nice headache overnight to decide the starting line-up."
Chiefs met SuperSport in the same round of the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup in 2014. On the day that belonged to George Lebese’s last minutes brace of goals.
Komphela will not be drawn into the history books that much, safe to keep SuperSport’s current form in check.
"They are not getting the results," notes Komphela. "And that makes them dangerous customers. They are experiencing a hiccup and that doesn't make them a bad team."
Komphela is well aware that Amakhosi are commanding the exclusive status of the most decorated team in this competition, with 13 trophies in their cabinet.
"At Chiefs the challenge remains the same," referred Komphela. "There's no minor match and there's no practice match either. The expectations at Chiefs are clear. And that is we have to win both the league and cup. We are fighting for every cup competition on offer and this one will not be an exception."
Chiefs go into the battlefield with the aim of stretching their wins over SuperSport to 28 out of 67 matches across all competitions since 1990. SuperSport have won 23 and 14 matches have been drawn."
Kickoff at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 22 April is at 18:00 and tickets are on sale at TicketPro for R60.
