Kaizer Chiefs striker Rotson Kilambe looks set to be out of action for up to two months after injuring his hamstring during The Amakhosi’s loss against Golden Arrows on Saturday.

Kilambe is expected to undergo a scan on Tuesday to determine the full extent of the damage while the Chiefs medical team are of the opinion that the striker could only return to action sometime toward the end of April.

Kilambe who joined Chiefs at the start of the 2006 – 2007 season had just recently returned to competitive action after sitting on the sidelines since the 9th December when he did damage to his knee. After coming into the game as a second-half substitute during Chiefs dramatic 1-1 draw with Pirates, the former Zambian international striker made a winning return to full fitness at the end of January as he played a leading role in Chiefs 1-0 win over Ajax Cape Town.

His return to action was marred by the fact that he collected a yellow card in the win over Ajax, and as a result he missed Chiefs next game against his former team Mamelodi Sundowns, by virtue of having picked up his third yellow card of the season.

Rotson, who was Chiefs' hero when The Amakhosi lifted the SAA Supa8 trophy in October as he struck the only goal in the final against SuperSport United, had to be carried off the field against Arrows after damaging his hamstring.

With Rotson injuring himself in the 82nd minute of the game, Chiefs had to finish the game a man less as they had already made all three of their substitutions in the game.

Amakhosi physiotherapist David Milner believes that the striker will be given time to get back to full fitness and will not be rushed back into action.

Milner added, “From my initial assessment, the damage looks quite bad. He needed to be carried off the field and back to the changing room. He is still in a lot of discomfort and pain and therefore we took a decision to send him for a scan, which he should undergo on Tuesday. Once the scan is done we will be able to see exactly how bad the tear to his hamstring is and we can thereafter begin to plan a programme for him to work his way back.”

The Chiefs physiotherapist continued further “Our first impression of his injury is that it is a serious one and he will need time to fully recover from it, and I estimate that he will need around two months to be back at full speed again. At the moment it is proving very difficult to be mobile and he needs to be assisted in getting around, so it is imperative for us to be up to speed with he is going through”

The Chiefs medical team are expected to have a copy of the results of Rotson’s scan by midday on Tuesday, and after assessing them the information will be made public, check back with www.kaizerchiefs.com on the full update surrounding Rotson Kilambe at lunch time on Tuesday.
