Chiefs beat Maritzburg 2-0 on Saturday at the Sinaba Stadium. It was the final match of the year for MultiChoice Diski Challenge before the festive recess. Goals came courtesy of Sibongiseni Hlengwa (35th), while Given Thibedi’s 47th minute spot-kick sealed the victory.
“We could have scored more if you look at the opportunities that we created,” observed Zwane. “However, I am content with the complete performance on the day. I am convinced that we are finally getting there. Our tactical awareness and decision-making was spot on.”
Amakhosi will take a festive break from the MDC fixtures. Zwane confirmed, “We have given the players a training programme to maintain their fitness during the break and we will test them when they get back. Remember, part of development is to teach responsibility and the boys are well aware of that.”
Zwane also spoke about the schedule, “We will return to full training on 4 January 2018. Accordingly, we will have ten days to prepare for our next fixture against SuperSport United on 14 January.”
The fixture against Matsatsantsa will be another Asidlali Festival, which will take place at Sinaba Stadium.
Chiefs’ reserve side closed 2017 with nine games played in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge, occupying ninth log position and nine points adrift of leaders Golden Arrows.
“I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,” saluted Zwane. “Let’s all have a wonderful festive break and return revitalised in January.”
