The attacking midfielder, whose surname means attacker in English, hails from Sebokeng in the Vaal. He penned a two-and-a-half-year contract with Amakhosi from January 2018. He spent the past two-and-a-half years with Bloemfontein Celtic before moving to Johannesburg.
“This is a dream come true for me and I’m happy that I am part of this big institution,” says the attacking midfielder. “The welcome by the chairman, staff, coaches and team mates has been phenomenal. I am looking forward to engaging with the supporters.”
The player started six matches and came on a substitute a further six times for his former club during the first half of the current season. He played a big role in helping the Free State outfit reach the Telkom Knockout in December 2017.
“I am aware of the pressure that comes with playing for Kaizer Chiefs. The only way to repay those who recommended me to the Kaizer Chiefs management and to keep the supporters happy is to work hard and make sure we do well as a team – this way our names will be added to the glorious history of the club,” adds Mahlasela.
“Walking around the offices and seeing the trophies in the cabinet and the professional way the team is run is motivating enough and I will not let anyone down.”
The 26-year-old says he is looking forward to playing in front of the thousands of Amakhosi faithful who attend matches around the country. “Supporters play a big role in spurring us on and we know the emotional investment they put in – ours is to deliver so they go home happy.”
