“I am looking forward to the Maize Cup,” says an excited Kabelo Mahlasela, who joined Kaizer Chiefs during the January transfer window. “I will be ready and give it my best, if I am given an opportunity to play in our game against Buya Msuthu.”
Chiefs will face ABC Motsepe league side, Buya Msuthu in the semi-final of the Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup at Orkney’s James Motlatsi Stadium on Saturday, 14 July (kick-off at 10:00).
Mahlasela sadly injured his knee during his first training session after becoming a Glamour Boy and needed surgery. “It was difficult,” he admits. “I wanted to show everybody what I could do. Instead, I was out for the rest of the season.”
The attacking midfielder has, however, fully recovered and is presently enjoying the pre-season camp with the squad. “It’s great to be back in full training with the guys,” the 27-year-old says.
Mahlasela can’t wait for the Maize Cup on Saturday and will probably get a chance to show his class. “I want to repay the Kaizer Chiefs supporters and the club’s management for all the support they have given me over the last few months.
“It was hard, but everybody stood behind me, including our supporters whose backing was such a moral boost. It’s now up to me to repay all those people with my performances on the field.”
The other semi-final is between Chippa United and Free State Stars, which will start at 12:00.
The winners of the semi-final matches will meet each other in the final, which will take place at 16:00.
