Maluleka played for the Urban Warriors between 2009 and 2012, on loan from SuperSport United. “I had a good time with them and I revived my career at Ajax under coach Foppe de Haan. That’s why the club will always be close to my heart.”
The Glamour Boys are presently in third position on the Absa Premiership log, while Ajax are in 13th spot with 13 points from 13 games. Chiefs have collected 19 points from 14 matches.
The Tembiso-born midfielder started in 11 of the 14 leagues games, usually playing alongside holding midfielder Willard Katsande, who will miss the Ajax encounter due to suspension.
“I like to play a little bit more forward,” he acknowledges, “as I have in my present position less opportunities to attack. However, it’s the coach’s decision. Besides that, I am enjoying this role as well.”
Saturday’s match will be the last league match in eThekwini this season.
“I love to play in Durban,” Maluleka continues. “I also scored both my goals there this season.”
The Amakhosi midfielder netted in the 2-1 league loss to Baroka FC and scored the opener in the 3-0 win over AmaZulu in the Telkom Knockout Last 16.
“Durban is usually a good hunting ground for us,” the 28-year-old confirms. “Ajax won’t be an easy opponent, but we are ready. We are in the thick of things when it comes to the log, being in third position and we definitely look at finishing the year on a high note.”
Chiefs will host Ajax in an Absa Premiership fixture at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 16 December (kick-off is at 20:15).
