Leonardo Castro and Hendrick Ekstein, who was handed the Man of the Match award, both scored to give Kaizer Chiefs a deserved 2-0 win.
“I am pleased with the progress we are making,” added the German coach. “We are still working on certain aspects of the game though. I thought some elements of our passing game needs improving, but the progress is visible with every game.”
Middendorp heaped praise on his team for collecting the three points against a resolute Wits. “A player such as Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya for example is just a marvel to watch. He has an excellent grasp of what we expect of him. He is a fantastic player.”
Ntiya-Ntiya provided the cross that resulted in Castro’s fantastic finish.
According to Middendorp, “Teenage Hadebe provided the much-needed stability at the left-back position, while Kgotso Moleko had a flawless game at right-back.
“We will take this win as an inspiration to Zambia. Our opponent, Zesco United will be difficult, especially in their backyard. We will recover and get ready for that game.”
Chiefs travel this weekend to Ndola to face Zesco United in the first leg of a CAF Confederation Cup play-off fixture. The game is billed to take place at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Sunday, 13 December. Kick-off is 15:00.
