“This is really great,” says Nazwan Arwizan Abdul Wahab who was clearly impressed, while looking at the soccer pitches and the offices of the staff at Chiefs Village. The Malaysian is a huge Amakhosi supporter, closely following the club since 2010.
“I remember Shabba scoring the opening goal at the 2010 World Cup,” reflects Nazwan, referring to Siphiwe Tshabalala’s scorcher against Mexico at FNB Stadium.
He quickly realised that Shabba plays for Kaizer Chiefs and has been following the club ever since. “I try to watch the highlights of every Chiefs game on YouTube,” Nazwan proudly points out, who lives in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s capital. Obviously, Tshabalala is still his favourite Glamour Boy.
Nazwan was joined at the Village by his fellow countryman, Mohammad Fadhil and two other colleagues. They all work for the German company Reinhausen that operates worldwide and helps to optimise oil transformers technically and cost-effectively. Nazwan works for the company in Malaysia, while Fadhil is currently at the subsidiary in South Africa.
The Malaysian bought the 2014/2015 Champions Jersey at the KC Store, above all because “it has the same blue and yellow colours of Perlis, the state in which I was born”. He got his name and number 17 printed on his jersey. “I play for a veteran’s team back home, always wearing that number.”
“Good luck with your game against Bloemfontein Celtic,” Nazwan concludes. Amakhosi host Celtic in a crucial Absa Premiership game on Saturday.
