Kaizer Chiefs start the second round of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season this evening with an away fixture against AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The game takes place on a special day as we commemorate the Orkney disaster in which 42 fans lost their lives during a friendly game between Amakhosi and Orlando Pirates at the Oppenheimer Stadium in North West in 1991.
The match is the fourth meeting of the season between the sides after first meeting in the league in September and a two-legged MTN8 semi-final.
Both Chiefs and AmaZulu are desperate for a win after losing their matches last weekend against Sekhukhune United and Royal AM, respectively.
On the log Chiefs are in 4th position with 24 points in the bag and the hosts, AmaZulu are 12th after collecting 18 points. Both teams have played 15 matches.
With defender S’fiso Hlanti suspended after collecting four yellow cards and attacker Keagan Dolly getting injured after colliding badly with the referee in the last match, Chiefs are forced to make two changes to the team, Coach Arthur Zwane has also decided to make one tactical change to last weekend’s starting XI by bringing in young sensation Mduduzi Shabalala to make his his first start for the senior team.
Hlanti will be replaced by Happy Mashiane at the back, Dolly by Ashley Du Preez and Shabalala will take Kamohelo Mahlatsi’s place in attack.
The team will keep their 4-5-1 formation against Usuthu this evening.
Goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune is in goals.
The defence from left to right will have Mashiane, Edmilson Dove and Zitha Kwinika at centre-back and Reeve Frosler on the right.
In midfield Chiefs will have Samkelo Zwane with reliable support from Yusuf Maart.
Nkosingiphile Ngcobo will run in front of the two sitters and will have Du Preez on his left and 18-year old Shabalala to his right.
Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana is the striker.
Skipper Itumeleng Khune will wear the armband
Referee Masixole Bambiso will officiate the match, with assistance from Athenkosi Ndongeni and Sibusiso Sisilana on the touchlines. Xolani Hlatshwayo is the fourth official.
The Glamour Boys and Usuthu will kick off 19:30 at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. The match will be live on SuperSport’s PSL Channel 202 on DStv, and various SABC radio stations, with regular updates of the match on Twitter @KaizerChiefs.
