Mashiane Happy to extend Chiefs stay

Happy Mashiane is indeed a happy young man, invigorated by extending his blossoming Kaizer Chiefs career.

The attack-minded defender was amongst a group of seven players who recently extended their contracts at Chiefs. Having come through the youth ranks at the club the Tembisa born player is now looking ahead to the future, after putting pen to paper on a contract which will see him stay at the club until the end of June 2024.

“I am very honoured and happy to have renewed my contract with my club Kaizer Chiefs. I went home after penning my extension. I went to see the family, having improved my contract, and they were all very pleased for me,” Mashiane says with glee as he speaks of the pride of extending his Amakhosi stay.

The young defender made his debut for Chiefs in January 2019 and has already built up a wealth of experience on the African continent and in the Premier Soccer League.

“So far, so good. I just need to work hard so that I can achieve more. I came to Chiefs at the age of 16 so I am enjoying my stay. Things are not rosy for us right now, but they will change. The team might not be doing so well at the moment, but I know this is home and I have to work hard to achieve what I want for me and the team,” Mashiane told www.kaizerchiefs.com.

With 26 appearances for Chiefs in all competitions, the 24 year old will be looking to build on those in the coming years, as well as filling up his personal trophy cabinet and that of the club.

“We all know when we come to Chiefs you must win trophies. We have not won anything in seven years. My ambition is to take the club back to its glory days. Hard work is going to take us back to the top,” Mashiane says frankly.

This weekend that quest continues in the Nedbank Cup, a tournament in which he made his senior Chiefs debut against Tornado FC in January 2019 in a 1-0 round of 32 win.

He has a special affinity with the competition, but also some bitter memories of coming so near and yet so far in the Nedbank Cup.

“We have a history against TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup. Them defeating us in the final in 2019 was not nice. We know how good they are and how they play. Every game we play against TS Galaxy is like a final after what happened in 2019 and the way the team felt after that final,” says Mashiane.
