Despite limited game time so far this season, George Matlou has shown enough substance in his brief cameos to suggest that he will have an important role to play for Kaizer Chiefs this season.
The 25-year-old has been used only as a substitute in Amakhosi’s first few matches of the campaign, but he is anything but despondent, seeing it as a foot in the door to the First XI.
“I am well,” he tells www.kaizerchiefs.com, “I have been working hard at training, so I am just hoping for the best and waiting for my opportunity to come. The coach saw something in me. Even the few minutes that I have played, I think I have contributed well to the games we won, so it’s good.”
Whether starting or coming off the bench, Matlou will be keen to deploy his exceptional skills to try to unlock the Royal AM defence when the teams meet on Saturday in The DStv Premiership at FNB stadium.
Matlou concedes that Royal AM are, “a good team, so we can’t go in underestimating them, thinking they had a slow start to the season. They have been picking up recently,” before adding, “We are looking forward to the game, though. Our preparations have been going well and the players are sharp so we are looking for a positive result.”
A welcome three points against Thwihli Thwathla will see Amakhosi take another step in the direction of their primary aim this season, which is to deliver silverware to the Club’s passionate and loyal fanbase.
Matlou affirms the motivation within the camp to do everything possible to achieve the goal, pledging, “Our ambition is to win more games and make our supporters happy, so we promise to give everything to win our games and lift a cup this season.”
