The official opening and launch took place on the eve of Kaizer Chiefs’ first of three Absa Premiership matches billed for the Moses Mabhida Stadium this season. The Mayor and Amakhosi’s Marketing Director cut the ribbon to officially open the store for business to a resounding applause from the supporters and shoppers at Umlazi’s Mega City Mall.
“We are very proud of what Kaizer Chiefs have done for the community of Umlazi and the city at large,” commented Mayor Gumede. “The club has always been trailblazers and pioneering in everything they do. We hope that the community make use of the store and we hope the club opens more in other places around Durban.”
The new store is situated at shop 141 at Umlazi’s Mega City on Griffiths Mxenge Highway and is one of six insurance stores that have opened in different provinces and cities since May this year. The project is a joint venture between Kaizer Chiefs and long-standing insurance partner and sponsor, Hollard.
Before the official opening in September, the store opened its doors to customers in Durban on Friday, 7 July, giving supporters in KwaZulu-Natal access to Kaizer Chiefs insurance products and services as well as exclusive club merchandise.
“KwaZulu-Natal is our second home and we will continue to play some of our home games in Durban for the next number of seasons,” Motaung commented. “Looking at this and the huge support we receive when we play at Moses Mabhida Stadium, it made a lot of sense for us to open a store in Durban to attend to our supporters’ insurance and merchandise needs. Friday was a huge success and we are happy that we could partner with the Mayor and the Mega City centre management to have a successful activation in Umlazi.”
The formidable partnership between Kaizer Chiefs and the club’s insurance partner Hollard has seen the first store open in Alexandra township’s Alex Mall, followed by Rustenburg in the North West province, Mega City Mall in Umlazi, KZN, North End Mall in Port Elizabeth, Golden Walk Shopping Centre in Germiston and Gandhi Square in Johannesburg CBD.
“This new and exciting project offers our followers in South Africa an opportunity to acquire face-to-face assistance of the KC Insurance products and services, whether when they sign up or claim. We also sell some of the exclusive licensed merchandise that can only be found at these Kaizer Chiefs stores,” added Motaung.
Apart from offering face-to-face insurance services, KC Insurance stores sell some of the exclusively licensed merchandise including t-shirts, hats, caps, scarfs, blankets and other products that can only be found at the Kaizer Chiefs stores. The store will sell KC Mobile starter packs, provide RICA facilities and sell airtime to patrons.
The stores are unique in that they carry a selection of limited stock and special offers that are unavailable anywhere else - it truly is a full Kaizer Chiefs Insurance store experience.
Motaung once again thanked Hollard for the partnership in this new venture that will help create job opportunities for locals, assist supporters with their insurance needs and help the two brands get closer to their supporters and customers. She also thanked Mayor Zandile Gumede for her support and partnership in the sanitary towel drive and the store opening.
The KC Insurance store in Umlazi will operate between 9:00 and 17:30 from Monday to Friday and 8:30 to 13:00 on Saturdays.
