The Kaizer Chiefs midfielder spoke after the conclusion of the pre-match training session. “We knew that after having beaten Platinum Stars (3-0 win), we will go on a break,” adds Letsholonyane. “We are professionals, we work hard every day and prepare for the next match. And the next match is tomorrow against Cosmos. That’s our focus.”
The 33-year-old played for Jomo Cosmos from 2006 to 2008. “They are certainly not a bad side,” he analyses Chiefs’ opponents on Tuesday. “They have just been unfortunate not to win some of their matches. Their coach (Jomo Sono) has an eye for good players. We always respect our opponents and this time won’t be any different.”
Chiefs played to an encouraging one-all draw away against Ajax Cape Town in their last league match. That was followed by the convincing win over Platinum Stars in the Telkom Knockout.
Letsholonyane also spoke about the return of teammates George Lebese, Erick Mathoho and Itumeleng Khune, who were in South America with the South African national team.
“It is good to have them back,” he reacts, “although we still have another trio in the Bafana Bafana squad for the Chan qualifier against Angola. We are ready to win against Cosmos.”
The trio in South Africa’s African Nations Championship (Chan) squad are Levy Mokgothu, Bongani Ndulula and Hendrick Ekstein.
In the 49 league matches played between Chiefs and Cosmos since 1985, Amakhosi have emerged victorious on twenty occasions.
Tuesday evening’s clash will be played at Olen Park Stadium and statistics reveal Cosmos have won only five of their 25 home matches against Chiefs, suffering 11 defeats in the process.
Amakhosi are fifth on the log with Ezenkosi occupying second spot from the bottom. When the two teams last met in the league (2011/12 season), the Amakhosi took four points from the two matches by winning 2-1 at home and drawing 1-1 away.
Daniel Cardoso and David Zulu remain on the sideline, while recovering from their respective injuries.
