Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp completed a unique hat-trick when he collected his third successive Absa Premiership Coach of the Month award, at a ceremony held at the Premier Soccer League Offices in Parktown on Tuesday afternoon. The Chiefs mentor added the Absa Premiership coach of the month award for November to the awards he won for coach of the month for August as well as the joint award for September/October.
Chiefs played three Absa Premiership matches in the month of November which began with a 2-0 win over Chippa United on the 6th November away from home. Amakhosi then followed it up with an enthralling 3-2 win over Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium on the 9th November. They rounded up their league programme in November with a 4-0 away win over Stellenbosch in Cape Town on the 27th November.
Speaking on his achievement Middendorp was quick to divert praise away from himself and thanked those working alongside him for their efforts which has seen Chiefs have make their best start to a league campaign since 2014/15. He says: “We are very fortunate that we have a very specialised and professional technical team at the club, the group works well together and complement one another.
All the members of the technical staff are experts in their field, and they bring this to the team which has resulted in the success that we have had. I want to thank all of them for their hard work and dedication this is an award for all of them. Not forgetting our supporters who have been coming to the games in numbers.”
The Chiefs coach furthermore believes that Chiefs good performances and results have been down to the club concentrating on improving game by game.
“The players must get a lot of credit in addition, as we have always benchmarked ourselves on our last performance. We have not concentrated on any opponent but on getting better every game, and we have done a good job thus far by continuous self-improvement and we will look to continue doing so as we go forward,” he adds.
Chiefs scored nine goals in their three Absa Premiership fixtures in November, keeping two clean-sheets and conceding just two goals, as Ernst Middendorp makes history becoming the first Kaizer Chiefs coach in the PSL era to win three successive Coach of the Month awards according to club records. Overall this is his fourth PSL coach of the month award he also picked up the prize in December 2005 during his first spell as Chiefs coach in the 2005/06 season.
Chiefs are currently top of the table and have one more league game left for 2019 which will be against Maritzburg United on the 22nd December away from home at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg. Kick off for that game will be at 15h30.
